Electric panel upgrades
in Modesto, CA

Your panel is the heart of the house. When it's undersized, old, or one of the brands known to fail, everything downstream is living on borrowed time. RRJ Electric replaces and upgrades electric panels for homes and light-commercial buildings across the Modesto area: electrical panel upgrades, panel replacement, subpanels and meter mains, permitted, inspected, and coordinated with your utility.

What a panel upgrade actually involves

A service upgrade is more than swapping a box. We size the new service to the loads you have and the ones you're planning (EV charger, heat pump, hot tub, induction range), pull the permit, coordinate the shutoff and reconnect with your utility, set the new panel and meter main, land and label every circuit, and walk the inspector through it. You get a clean, labeled panel with room to grow.

Around Modesto the utility side depends on your address: MID inside Modesto, TID in Turlock and Ceres, PG&E in Manteca, Tracy, Ripon and most of San Joaquin County. We handle that coordination so you don't have to.

Signs it's time

  • Breakers trip when two big appliances run at once (A/C plus dryer is the classic).
  • Lights dim when the microwave, A/C or a power tool kicks on.
  • The panel is warm to the touch, buzzes, or smells like hot plastic.
  • You have a fuse box, a 60 or 100 amp service, or a Federal Pacific, Zinsco or Sylvania panel. Those brands have a documented history of breakers failing to trip.
  • You're adding an EV charger, solar, a shop, an ADU, or a major remodel.
  • Your insurance or a home inspector flagged the panel.

Common questions

How long is the power off?

Usually four to six hours on the day of the swap. We schedule around your day and tell you the window ahead of time so you can plan for the fridge and the Wi-Fi.

Do I need a 200 amp panel?

Not always. If the house is small and you're not adding an EV charger or major appliances, a like-for-like replacement of a failing panel may be enough. The load calculation tells us, and we'll show you the math.

Will this raise my home's value?

A modern, labeled 200A service is one of the first things inspectors and buyers look for. It removes a common negotiating point at sale and it's required for most solar and EV installs.
